Key West Nightspots - Music and Bars

It’s not hard to find your way around Key West’s bars … you only need to find Duval Street and do the Duval Crawl. You’ll find country western with bull riding cowgirls, outdoor island style dives like Willie T’s and the indoor island Margaritaville, and world famous Sloppy Joe’s. There’s even a nude bar if you dare atop the Bull & Whistle on the corner of Caroline & Duval. It’s called the Garden of Eden. What else you might miss if I don’t tell you about it:

Hog’s Breath

Just off Duval Street in the 200 block. Great live music, decent bar food, open air.

Schooner Wharf Bar
At the end of William Street on Key West Bight (just a block from Bo’s Fish Wagon)

Truly a piece of Old Key West. Good music, and okay fried bar food. The music and the atmosphere is the thing.

The Green Parrot

Hands down the best music in town – if you like blues and New Orleans style funk rock. Also the oldest bar in Key West, and very much a locals hang out. It’s a bit of a dive, which seems to run the tourists off. Go for the music. There’s usually a sound check at 5:30 – 7 on Friday and if you like what you hear you can come back for the show at 10 pm. Check the website for the schedule:

Irish Kevin’s

It’s not that you won’t see this without my mentioning it, but you might not check it out. It’s rowdy and noisy, but the show is usually hysterical, too. A few doors down from Sloppy Joe’s.

Just off Duval in the 500 block on Applerouth Lane, Virgilio’s is part of La Trattoria (excellent Italian). On the weekends there is live rock or blues and you can sit at the bar and order food if you like. The bar is part open air and is very pleasant. More elegant than most Key West spots, but you can still wear anything and feel as though you fit right in.
